Who Are We
AI Camp (www.ai-camp.org) teaches the future of technology to middle and high school students, training them to become professionals, and placing the best to work for top technology companies. We aim to establish a different kind of higher education, one where students learn valuable knowledge and skills at work while avoiding crippling student debt. We want to return education to the apprenticeship model (learn-by-doing) that has worked for thousands of years. As student debt climbs to 1.7T dollars and our confidence in current higher education drops to new lows, we are battling one of the biggest problems that face the education sector today.
We are advised by top-tier technology and education professionals, including (but not limited to) several CTOs, an OpenAI fellow, and a Stanford professor. Our mission is to open doors for our students and equip them to overcome any obstacles that come their way. We are only as great as the doors we open.
About the role (Data Science Intern)
Embark on a transformative journey this summer with AI Camp! As a Data Science Intern, you will immerse yourself in a unique dual role: developing an AI-powered teaching tool while simultaneously mentoring students in AI and machine learning. This opportunity is designed to provide you with deep contextual understanding, akin to the insights of successful tech founders, which you will then apply to create a pioneering educational product.
Internship Dates: June 3, 2023 - September 1, 2023
Online Pre-Internship Training: June 3, 2023 - June 7, 2023

What Will You Do:
- AI-Powered Product Development: Utilize our tech stack (TypeScript, Python, NextJS, React) to collaboratively create an innovative AI-powered teaching assistant. This project is central to the internship, where you'll apply your newfound teaching insights to enhance this cutting-edge educational tool.
- Mentoring and Teaching: Lead teams of 4-6 teenagers in intensive 1 to 3-week projects, focusing on Data Science, Machine Learning, Web Development, and Large Language Models. This hands-on teaching experience will provide you with crucial insights into the challenges of education, directly influencing your product development work.
- Leadership Pathway: Excel in your role and potentially advance to a Lead Data Science Instructor, where you'll mentor other interns and manage team dynamics.

For this Summer Program you may have an opportunity to be elevated to a Lead DSI.
- As a Lead DSI, they will lead a team of 4-5 fellow interns as they also serve as mentors for their respective teams. In this role you will be responsible for providing guidance and empowering your mentors to deliver the best experience for their students. You will also be an escalation point to mediate, and elevate issues for resolution.
- Selection of Leads will be based on factors including but not limited to:
- prior experience working at AI Camp,
- performance on pre internship crash course
- interview performance
- For this role, you will gain experience managing and growing leaders along with increased compensation.
Additional opportunities that may be available later on are:
- Lead a team in our Summer Guided Internship program applying your technical acumen to create solutions for external companies through building LLM-based solutions
- Design and Code Software Development as part of our Team Tomorrow Program
- Lead other interns in developing software in our Team Tomorrow Program
- Design New Curriculum for future educational purposes
